In May 2012, Aidea joined Build London Live, a prestigious international competition that tested the limits of rapid design innovation. Hosted as a 48-hour virtual event, the challenge brought together BIM practitioners from around the world, leveraging cloud-based collaboration to redefine architectural workflows.
Competing against 11 teams from 37 countries, Aidea worked in real time to conceptualize a Museum of 2012, celebrating the year’s defining cultural and social milestones—most notably, the London Summer Olympics and Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.
Situated on a rotunda near the O2 Arena, the proposed museum had to address significant spatial constraints, including a roadway that bisected the site. Aidea responded with an innovative solution: two interconnected buildings that promoted both spatial fluidity and symbolic continuity. The design was guided by three thematic pairs: identity and engagement, inspiration and connection, innovation and empowerment. Expansive glazing and skylights maximized natural light, enriching the visitor experience and reinforcing the openness of the architecture. Inside, the museum featured a flexible layout to accommodate dynamic exhibitions, ensuring adaptability for evolving cultural programming.
With over 1,000 viewers tuning in live, Aidea thrived in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment, refining ideas in real time through dynamic collaboration and iterative feedback. Leveraging Archicad and OpenBIM technology, the team achieved precise coordination, real-time visualization, and rapid design adjustments—crucial to delivering a cohesive concept within 48 hours. This digital excellence earned Aidea the OpenBIM Award, reinforcing its leadership in innovative design.
